john sisson > 19 July 2006 Grant Park Chicago The July 19th immigration march was smaller than the last two in Chicago this spring. The tone was more sad than celebratory this time, with a call for an end to deportations that are separating families until immigration reform legislation is passed.
john sisson > 18 July 2006 State and Washington Chicago It has been a rough week. I haven't had a chance to post daliy photos or even look at everyone elses. I'll catch-up over the weekend starting with this one... I was lucky enough to run into photographer Gary Stochl on Tuesday. I haven't seen him all summer, so I was very happy to see him out shooting with his Leica and light meter. His story and his photos are such an inspiration. I've seen him shooting around the Loop since the early 90s and always wondered about him until he was "discovered" a few years ago. I've talked with him a couple of times since then, including on Tuesday. He has such a quiet and gentle personality, and to watch him watch and photograph people is amazing.

It was a nice treat to get soaked on my ride home thanks to the kids in my neighborhood who opened the fire hydrant. Of course, that means no water pressure for the rest of the week in Pilsen due to the old plumbing, but I sure wasn't complaining and the cops weren't in any hurry to close the hydrants.
john sisson > 14 July 2006 Millennium Park Chicago I've wanted to try making some panoramas since seeing a show of Art Sinsabaugh's photos at the Art Institute of Chicago in 2004. He made these amazing narrow panorama prints of midwestern landscapes with a 12x20" view camera. Here's an attempt to do something similar but in a vertical format. Might need to click the 'O' view to see any detail since the crop is so small even at large view.
john sisson > 13 July 2006 Michigan and Madison Chicago It was so hot and humid in Chicago today, and saxophonist Timothy Sullivan spent the day playing for change on Michigan Avenue. I was sweating my butt off just watching him play so I hope he did well!
john sisson > 12 July 2006 Daley Bicentennial Plaza, Near Randolph and Columbus Chicago I often eat my lunch near Daley Plaza park. The day-camp kids there always seem to be having so much fun. Today, they had a huge box of chalk and there were drawings everywhere. Very difficult to go back to work after seeing how much fun they were having.
john sisson > 11 July 2006 Clinton and Fulton Chicago Riding home tonight I came upon the scene of a subway train fire. I was in the crowd of soot-covered passengers and crew as they were being assisted by the Chicago Fire and Police departments. Fortunately, there were no fatalities, but many passengers were suffering from smoke inhalation.
